FORTY-NINE

LAWFUL CHANGE

CONCERNS: The breaking up of old, stagnant forms when they no longer vitally serve the individual or the community so that the inner life can evolve and express its growth through new forms.

  1. Real change should not be a matter of emotion but of correct action in response to the demands of the time; here we need to master our impulses and wait.
  2. This is the propitious time for which we have been waiting; changes initiated now will be of unquestioned benefit to others.
  3. Real change cannot take place until all the dynamic elements in the situation are brought into alignment and then the moment must be seized. The vital knowledge of proper timing arises out of deep contemplation and the sincere consideration of valid input.
  4. By changing ourselves thoroughly to accord with the Divine Order, we come to be trusted by others and can lead them, in turn, through the processes of lawful change.
  5. When we institute thorough internal changes along clear and proper lines our behavior then compels the assent and respect of others.
  6. Some of us reform ourselves fundamentally and others change behaviors superficially in order to conform to what is expected or required. In both cases old forms are relinquished and new ways are adopted; we work at our level of consciousness.

COMMENT: Our habitual mental and emotional forms imprison us in a world of illusion devoid of clarity, reality and truth. Through the constant work of self-development and cultivated objectivity, we can penetrate our own encapsulation and live in the unity of life amid the particulars.
