THIRTY-TWO

PERSEVERANCE IN WHAT IS CORRECT

CONCERNS: That which can be continued without generating resistance; what is self-renewing and, thus, does not exhaust itself; what is in compliance with, and gets its direction from, the Divine Order.

  1. Prematurely attempting ambitious projects will risk failure.
  2. Establish and maintain an inner poise from which balanced expression can easily flow.
  3. If we allow ourselves to react emotionally, we lose control and will suffer humiliation.
  4. Persevering when there is nothing to gain. Pointless.
  5. When we lead, we should be firm within and outwardly flexible; when we follow, we should be cooperative.
  6. Vacillation will undermine our efforts.

COMMENT: We often conceive of creativity as proceeding from a flash of inspiration but pay less attention to the sustaining of these primal visions through time, yet creation is the actualization of a steady image. What inner visions will we work to materialize, the ones born of selfishness and immaturity or the ones received from an intense and compassionate contemplation of humanity’s real needs?
