FIFTY-NINE

DISPERSION

CONCERNS: The dissolution of prejudices and rigidities; releasing ourselves from self- imposed entrapment; the re-establishment of communication with ourselves or others; forgiveness.

  1. Confront an incipient problem realistically and, if not able to master it alone, obtain competent help before it becomes full-blown and intractable.
  2. Although we may not now be able to help ourselves, it is correct for us to put our energy into helping others even worse off.
  3. Putting our effort into thoughts and actions of unselfish usefulness will help to dissolve the ego. This is an unerringly successful practice for those who are able to transform principles into action.
  4. It is exceedingly beneficial when we can cease constructing partisan and exclusive relationships in favor of impartial service to the larger group and, finally, to humanity as a whole.
  5. The power of a revelation accessed during deep concentration can dissolve a personal or social impasse.
  6. What currently disturbs or threatens us can be handled best through distancing ourselves from it with dispassion and objectivity.

COMMENT: Genuine progress depends upon the development of our higher nature, the non-ego function that manifests when we are less and less preoccupied with our separated selves. The practice of employing our energies in helping others without the expectation of any return is a good way to further this.
