FIFTY-EIGHT

WELL-BEING

CONCERNS: Becoming aware of what truly contributes to our overall well-being, in contrast to what is temporarily pleasing.

  1. When we are not dependent upon anything, a stable sense of well-being arises within us. Pleasures arising from sense gratification fade quickly and turn into pain, remorse and feelings of deprivation.
  2. Relationships based on foundational integrity mature into trust and joy; exploitative relationships produce short- lived pleasures and long- term regrets.
  3. Those of us who are addicted to external pleasures for a transient sense of well-being will ultimately be humiliated.
  4. It is exceedingly difficult to domesticate the insistent desire for sense gratification but when we have achieved this, we transform our turmoil into inner peace and experience a great relief that justifies the effort.
  5. Why do we sometimes trust those who would seduce or exploit us? Now pointedly examine this question with clarity and thoroughness.
  6. Cunning, scheming, seductive minds have quick successes and long-term misfortunes.

COMMENT: Consistently turn away from transient gratifications and make increased contact with the world of higher values, meaning and subtle energies.
