GROUP CONSCIOUSNESS

CONCERNS: Groups or communities motivated by goodwill, unified by leaders whose benign strength attracts those who are grounded in self-regulation, harmony and purposefulness.

  1. When we are sincere and truthful correct relationships occur naturally.
  2. Friendships arising out of an inner accord with others do not compromise our dignity; those entered into for social or economic gain, undermine our self-respect and open us to exploitation.
  3. Here there is the risk of an improper association; cordiality, not intimacy, is indicated.
  4. Making an effort to reach out and cooperate with those worthy of support will be beneficial.
  5. Offer help to those who are receptive and who accept support when given voluntarily, allowing those wishing to depart to do so without guilt or recrimination.
  6. Avoiding the opportunities of community will render us isolated, alienated and useless.

COMMENT: The only correct basis for all human relationships is love. Even though this is not yet realizable in most associations, we can still express and generate goodwill. Making the effort in all our contacts to practice goodwill is, in itself, a powerful spiritual exercise as it fosters a conscious connection with our souls, which are intrinsically loving.
