FIVE

PATIENCE

CONCERNS: Keeping patiently focused in the midst of difficulties and dangers; trusting in a proper resolution; understanding that a basic confidence and a sincere faith will of themselves produce a positive energy response from the universe.

  1. Although we may sense impending difficulty or danger, we are still far from it; permitting anxiety to provoke us into reckless action could precipitate the difficulty which we fear.
  2. We are closer to the difficulty or danger; it is important now that we exercise restraint and self-control in the midst of any gossip, criticism, blame or agitation.
  3. We are entering an area of vulnerability, danger and possible defeat; a lack of caution now will invite serious trouble. We must be truly aware, calm and careful in order to resolve this situation favorably.
  4. Although in the midst of danger, do not become overwhelmed by anxiety and helplessness; by being cooperative, non-challenging and receptive to available help you can get out of the threatening situation.
  5. Since the outcome will be beneficial, we remain serene, balanced and cheerful, alert to over-confidence.
  6. The waiting is now over. As we encounter the danger, however, unexpected help arrives; welcome the help with respect and all will be well.

COMMENT: It is easier to deal with troubles when they are small; our freedom of action is greatest at the beginning of events, and the I Ching teaches us the wisdom of paying serious attention to the first, small signs of danger.
